MISSION
STATEMENT
The California Association for the
Retarded advocates to preserve dignity, expand
opportunities, and protect the rights of individuals
with mental retardation
and other developmental disabilities,
and their families.
We recognize that there is a wide range of disabilities
among people with mental retardation and believe, as stated in the
Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act, that
“Individuals with developmental disabilities and their families are
the primary decision-makers regarding the services and supports such
individuals and their families receive...”
We believe in the right of individuals with mental
retardation and their families to have available a full spectrum of
choices which includes both congregate and inclusive community options
in all areas including residential, work, training, support settings,
and recreational activities, and that individual need should dictate
services.
It is in this way that individuals with mental
retardation can truly share with all other Americans their
constitutional right to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. |
